In media, from long form investigative reports and interviewing to public affairs programming and features, Valerie looks for the essence of what makes a story relevant, compelling and of value.

As a Senior Producer, I seek the spark that lights up the story. If there’s a historical or societal thread, I will distill the essence of the content and share its nexus to ‘The Big Picture.’ It’s in my DNA .”

Once a story airs or a project is complete, it’s not over. The impact on and engagement with listeners and viewers is a key aspect to Valerie’s intention and drive. She has strategically positioned stories on social media attuned for their maximum impact, positioning them to go “viral.” The American Law Journal archived programming has more than 1.4 million unique views more than nearly 8,000 subscribers to date with new viewers and subscribers every day.

Valerie and her “small but mighty” team has been honored with six Emmy awards from fourteen nominations in four years by the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences in the Mid-Atlantic region for broadcasting excellence in interview discussion series, programs, specials and politics and government programming.

Valerie’s roots in education include serving as full time faculty at Virginia Tech for six years, teaching media and communications courses, setting in motion the student television station VTTV and helping launch the careers of hundreds of students including several nationally-recognized on-air journalists, communications and media executives as well as accomplished leaders of non-profit organizations.

“Off the set”

Valerie has a life-long interest in health and wellness and is enrolled in functional medicine behavioral health change coaching coursework with The Kresser Institute. She is also a certified HeartMath(R) Mentor for heart rate variability for resilience, performance and stress reduction.

As a volunteer, Valerie serves in a non-medical capacity for the Virginia Beach Medical Reserve Corps. From the perspective of a volunteer, Valerie wrote an article featured on the Opinion page of the Virginian-Pilot regional newspaper.

And for fun, although the license isn’t complete Valerie has hours of instructor time with light aircraft. She’s great at takeoff, attitude/straight-and-level flying and can “stick the landing” in a pinch. Available for co-piloting anytime, especially if North Carolina’s Outer Banks and Ocracoke Island are your destination!
